Description Sterile solution for injection in ampoules or prefilled syringes.
Indications Cardiopulmonary resuscitation - in the treatment of asystole by intravenous injection. In arrhythmias - bradycardia associated with acute myocardial infarction.
Adult Dosage CPR: 3mg intravenously once only. Arrhythmias: 0.3mg, increasing to 1mg if necessary.
Child Dosage Not recommended.
Contra Indications Known Hypersensitivity to atropine, closed angle glaucoma, prostatic enlargement, paralytic ileus or pyloric stenosis, myasthenia gravis, severe ulcerative colitis.
Special Precautions Use with caution in children, the elderly and those with Down's Syndrome. Use with caution in diarrhoea, urinary retention, acute myocardial infarction, hypertension or fever, and when the ambient temperature is high. the ambient temperature is high. Conditions characterised by tachycardia such as thyrotoxicosis, cardiac insufficiency or failure and during cardiac surgery. Pregnancy and lactation.
Adverse Drug Reactions Dry mouth with difficulty in swallowing, thirst, dilation of the pupils with loss of accommodation and photophobia, flushing, dryness of skin, bradycardia followed by tachycardia, palpitations and arrhythmias, difficulty with micturition, and constipation. Occasionally vomiting, fever, rashes and confusional states, especially in the elderly.
