Patent ductus arteriosus in premature babies. - Adult Dosage
Not applicable. - Child Dosage
A course of three doses at 12- 24 hour intervals based on age of neonate and urinary output by intravenous infusion over 20-30 minutes; see Summary of Product Characteristics. - Contra Indications
Untreated infection, intracranial or GI bleeding, thrombocytopenia, coagulation defects, necrotising enterocolitis, significant renal impairment, conditions where patency needs to be preserved.
- Special Precautions
Monitor renal function, plasma electrolytes and for signs of bleeding, discontinue if liver disease develops. Risk of renal failure is increased in babies failure is increased in babies with extracellular volume depletion, CHF, sepsis or hepatic dysfunction. May mask symptoms of infection.
- Interactions
Digitalis, frusemide (furosemide) , aminoglycosides. - Adverse Drug Reactions
GI upset, increased risk of bleeding, renal dysfunction, electrolyte imbalance, fluid retention, exacerbation of infection.
