ELANTAN (heart failure)

Tablets, isosorbide mononitrate 20mg , 40mg . - Description
White scored tablets marked E20 or E40. - Indications
Adjunct in chronic congestive heart failure not responding to cardiac glycosides or diuretics. - Adult Dosage
40 - 80 mg daily in two or three divided doses after meals; maximum 120 mg daily. - Child Dosage
Not recommended. - Contra Indications
Known sensitivity to nitrates. Acute myocardial infarction with low filling pressure, acute circulatory failure (shock, vascular collapse), or very low blood pressure. Avoid in patients with marked anaemia, head trauma, cerebral haemorrhage, severe hypotension, hypovolaemia.
- Special Precautions
Use with caution in hypothyroidism, hypothermia, malnutrition, severe liver or renal disease. Pregnacy and lactation. - Interactions
Some effects of alcohol may be potentiated. - Adverse Drug Reactions
Headache, flushes, dizziness.
