Haematinics (iron supplements, folate supplements, vitamin C, vitamins).
- Generic Name
Folic acid, ferrous gluconate, ascorbic acid - Presentation
Tablets, folic acid 4mg, ferrous gluconate 250mg (equivalent to 30mg Fe), ascorbic acid 10mg. Ferfolic SV is not prescribable on the NHS.
- Description
Pink s-c tablets.
- Indications
Iron and folic acid deficiencies. Prophylactic use to reduce risk of foetal neural tube defects in women known to be at risk.
- Adult Dosage
Anaemia: 1 three times daily. Prophylaxis of neural tube defects: 1 daily before conception and for at least first trimester.
- Child Dosage
Not recommended.
- Contra Indications
Megaloblastic anaemia.
- Interactions
Tetracyclines.
- Adverse Drug Reactions
Nausea, constipation.
