Description Zantac Tablets: 150mg white five- sided f-c tablets; 300mg white f-c tablets. Both marked with tablet name, strength and GLAXO. Zantac Syrup: sugar-free syrup. Zantac Injection: solution in ampoules. Zantac Effervescent: white effervescent tablets.
Indications Treatment of duodenal, benign gastric and post-operative ulceration, including that due to NSAIDs. Prevention of NSAID induced duodenal ulcers. Duodenal ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori . Oesophageal reflux, reduction of gastric acid, chronic episodic dyspepsia. Moderate to severe oesophagitis. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Prophylaxis of haemorrhage in stress ulcer or bleeding peptic ulcer. Prophylaxis of acid aspiration during general anaesthesia.
Adult Dosage Duodenal and gastric ulcer, 150 mg twice daily or 300 mg at bedtime for four weeks or 300 mg twice daily; maintenance, 150 mg at bedtime. DU with H. pylori , 300 mg at bedtime or 150 mg twice daily for four weeks plus amoxicillin 750 mg three times daily and metronidazole 500 mg three times daily for first 2 weeks. Prevention of NSAID induced duodenal ulcer, 150 mg twice daily. Reflux oesophagitis, 150 mg twice daily or 300 mg at bedtime for up to 12 weeks. If moderate to severe, 150 mg four times daily for up to 12 weeks. Long term treatment of healed oesophagitis, 150 mg twice daily. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, 150 mg three times daily. Increase to 6 g daily if necessary. Chronic episodic dyspepsia, 150 mg twice daily for up to 6 weeks. Prophylaxis of haemorrhage, 150 mg twice daily substituted for inj. once oral feeding commences.
Child Dosage Under 2 years, not recommended; over 2 years, peptic ulceration only, 2 - 4 mg/kg twice daily; maximum 300 mg daily. Exclude malignant disease before treatment. Impaired renal function. Pregnancy. Lactation.
Adverse Drug Reactions Headache, dizziness. Rarely hepatitis, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, hypersensitivity, confusion, breast symptoms.
