- Generic Name
Ephedrine - Presentation
Elixir, ephedrine hydrochloride 4 mg/5 mL .
- Description
Sucrose-free elixir.
- Indications
Bronchospasm.
- Adult Dosage
20 mL three or four times daily.
- Child Dosage
Under 6 months, not recommended; 6 months - 2 years, 2.5 mL; 2 - 4 years, 5 mL; over 4 years, 10 mL. All three times daily.
- Contra Indications
Hyperthyroidism, hypertension, coronary disease, prostatic hypertrophy, hyperexcitability, closed angle glaucoma.
- Special Precautions
Diabetes, ischaemic heart disease, renal impairment.
- Interactions
MAOIs, anaesthetics, tricyclic antidepressants, b-blockers, guanethidine, reserpine, methyldopa, digoxin.
- Adverse Drug Reactions
Anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, tremor, arrhythmia, dry mouth, cold extremities.
