Loop diuretics / potassium supplements (K + supplements).
- Generic Name
Frusemide (furosemide), potassium chloride - Presentation
Tablets, frusemide 20mg, potassium chloride 750mg (10 mmol K+) in a sustained-release matrix.
- Description
White/yellow f-c two-layered tablets marked LK.
- Indications
Oedema where potassium supplement is required.
- Adult Dosage
Initially 2 daily as a single dose in the morning, if necessary increasing to 4 daily in two divided doses or reducing to 1 daily.
- Child Dosage
Not applicable.
- Contra Indications
Precomatose states associated with liver cirrhosis. Hyperkalaemia; Addison's disease.
- Special Precautions
Hepatic or renal impairment. Diabetes. Prostatic hypertrophy or impaired micturition. Gout. Pregnancy. Lactation.
- Interactions
K+-sparing diuretics, digitalis, lithium, aminoglycosides, NSAIDs, cephalosporins, antihypertensives.
- Adverse Drug Reactions
GI upset, rash, gout. Discontinue if any symptoms of ulceration or obstruction of small bowel occur.
