Bendrofluazide

Generic - Presentation
Tablets, bendrofluazide 2.5 mg , 5 mg , Available from APS, Ashbourne (Neo-Bendromax R ), Cox, Goldshield (Neo-NaclexR , 5 mg only), Hillcross, Norton, Regent, Sovereign (AprinoxR , generic preparation also available). - Description
Tablets. - Indications
Mild hypertension. Severe hypertension (in combination with other drugs). Mild to moderate other drugs). Mild to moderate heart failure where no pulmonary oedema is present.
- Adult Dosage
Oedema, initially 5 - 10 mg every morning or on alternate days. Maintenance, 5 - 10 mg once or twice weekly. Hypertension, 2.5 - 5 mg once daily.
- Child Dosage
Initially up to 400 microgram/kg daily reducing to 50 - 100 microgram/kg daily for maintenance. - Contra Indications
Severe renal failure. Sulphonamide sensitivity. Lactation. - Special Precautions
Hepatic or renal impairment, Addison's disease, hypercalcaemia, diabetes, gout, SLE. Monitor renal function and electrolytes. Elderly. Pregnancy.
- Interactions
Lithium, cardiac glycosides, corticosteroids, carbenoxolone, tubocurarine, NSAIDs, antidiabetic agents, alcohol, barbiturates, opioids, antihypertensives.
- Adverse Drug Reactions
Electrolyte and metabolic disturbance. Rash, photosensitivity, blood dyscrasias, impotence, pancreatitis.
