Drug Description

Freeze-dried powder for injection in vials.

Presentation

Powder for injection, thiopentone sodium BP 500mg.

Indications

Induction of general anaesthesia.

Child Dosage

Refer to Summary of Product Characteristics.

Contra Indications

Respiratory obstruction, acute asthma, severe shock and dystrophia myotonica. Porphyria.

Patients with hypersensitivity reactions to barbiturates. Breastfeeding should be temporarily suspended or breast milk expressed before induction of anaesthesia.

Special Precautions

Severe cardiovascular disease, severe respiratory disease, hypertension. Pregnancy. Refer to Summary of Product Characteristics.

Interactions

Sulphafurazole, beta-blockers, calcium-channel blockers.

Adverse Reactions

Laryngeal spasm during induction, allergic reactions.
