Drug Class Description

Selective b2 -agonists (beta- agonists, beta-adrenoceptor stimulants).

Generic Name

Salbutamol

Drug Description

CFC-free metered dose aerosol.

Presentation

Inhaler, salbutamol (as sulphate) 100 microgram per dose .

Indications

Bronchospasm in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema. Prophylaxis of exercise-induced asthma.

Adult Dosage

Acute attack, 1 or 2 puffs; prophylaxis, 2 puffs before exercise. Maximum dose, 8 puffs in 24 hours.

Child Dosage

Acute attack, 1 or 2 puffs; prophylaxis, 1 or 2 puffs before exercise. Maximum dose, 8 puffs in 24 hours.

Special Precautions

Hyperthyroidism, myocardial insufficiency, angina, cardiac arrhythmias, hypertension. Pregnancy.

Interactions

Sympathomimetics, b-blockers (beta-blockers). (beta-blockers).

Adverse Reactions

Fine tremor, headache, peripheral vasodilatation, hypokalaemia.
