Vitamin A analogues.

Tretinoin

Drug Description

Cream.

Presentation

Cream, tretinoin 0.05%. Retinova is not prescribable on the NHS.

Indications

Mottled hyperpigmentation, roughness and fine wrinkling of photodamaged skin due to chronic sun exposure.

Adult Dosage

Apply lightly to affected areas once daily at night until visible improvement, usually within 3 - 4 months. Maintenance, apply one to three times per week.

Child Dosage

Not recommended.

Contra Indications

Personal or familial history of cutaneous epithelioma. Pregnancy.

Special Precautions

Eczema, cutaneous irritation. Avoid exposure to sunlight. Avoid eyes, mouth and mucous membranes. Lactation.

Interactions

Other topical medications or cosmetics likely to cause skin irritation.

Adverse Reactions

Erythema, local irritation, peeling, hyper or hypopigmentation.
