Drug Class Description
Ocular lubricants.Generic Name
White soft paraffin, liquid paraffinDrug Description
No pharmacologically active ingredient is present.Presentation
Eye ointment. Smooth, homogeneous, off-white, preservative-free ointment.Indications
As adjunctive therapy to lubricate and protect the eye in conditions such as exposure keratitis, decreased corneal sensitivity, recurrent corneal erosions, keratitis sicca, ophthalmic and non-ophthalmic surgery.
Adult Dosage
For topical ocular administration.
Pull lower eye lid down to form a pocket and apply small amount as required.
There is no variation in dosage for age.
Contra Indications
Hypersensitivity to lanolin alcohols.
Special Precautions
To avoid contamination during use, do not touch the tube tip to any surface.
If irritation, pain, redness and changes in vision occur or worsen, treatment discontinuation should be considered and a re-evaluation of the patient's condition should be made.
Contact lenses should not be worn during instillation of the drug. After instillation there should be an interval of at least 30 minutes before reinsertion.
In circumstances where concomitant topical ocular medication is necessary, there should be an interval of at least 5 minutes between the two medications. LACRI-LUBE® / REFRESH NIGHT TIME® should always be the last medication instilled.
Interactions
No interactions have been observed with LACRI-LUBE® / REFRESH NIGHT TIME®. Since the constituents have a well-established medicinal use, no interactions are anticipated.
Adverse Reactions
Local (ocular) effects:
Transient blurring of vision (typically lasting 1-15 minutes) may occur.
Rare (>1/10,000, <1/1,000): irritation/stinging/burning sensation,
Very rare (<1/10,000): allergic reaction, pain, hyperaemia, and conjunctivitis.
Isolated reports of oedema, and pruritus.

MedImmune and Pfizer collaborate on anti cancer tremelimumab Eye Health and Disorders Page
Pfizer and MedImmune ( a subsidiary of AstraZeneca) will collaborate to develop tremelimumab. The drug was unsuccessful in a Phase III trial for Melanoma but discovery of a biomarker has spurred development and DebioPharm are running a Phase III trial for treatment of Melanoma.The agreement will give MedImmune global rights for cancer indications and Pfizer will retain rights to certain undisclosed combinations.
Luveniq is withdrawn from EMA for chronic non-infectious Uveitis Eye Health and Disorders Page
Lux Biosciences has withdrawn Luveniq (voclosporin oral) from the EMA as a treatment for chronic non-infectious Uveitis following a negative opinion from the CHMP which considered that the benefits of the drug did mnot outweight its risks.
Ocriplasmin for Vitromacular Adhesion is filed at EMA Eye Health and Disorders Page
The European Medicines Agency has accepted for review ocriplasmin (2.5 mg/ml, solution for injection) from Thrombogenics ,for the treatment of symptomatic Vitreomacular Adhesion (VMA) including macular hole. Ocriplasmin's MAA will be evaluated through the EMA's centralised procedure with an official start date of 19 October 2011 and, if approved, the product will gain marketing authorisation for all EU Member States simultaneously. Successful approval will make it the first pharmacological treatment for this indication. The company has kept to its stated time frames for the European filing and in announcing the EMA's acceptance of the MAA, the company once more reiterated its plans for the treatment to be filed with the US FDA by the end of the year
