Indocid Capsules and Indocid Suppositories: Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, degenerative joint disease of the hip, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, lumbago, acute peri-articular disorders, orthopaedic procedures. Dysmenorrhoea. Indocid-R: As above except acute gouty arthritis.
Adult Dosage
Indocid Capsules: 50-200 mg daily in divided doses with food or an antacid.
Indocid Suppositories: One at night plus one in the morning if necessary. Indocid-R: One once or twice daily.
Contra Indications
Active peptic ulcer, history of gastro-intestinal lesions. Aspirin/anti-inflammatory induced allergy. Recent proctitis or rectal bleeding (suppositories). Nasal polyps with angioneurotic oedema. Pregnancy, lactation.
Special Precautions
Renal or hepatic impairment; monitor on long term therapy. CNS disorders. Asthma. Predisposition to fluid retention. In chronic RA, examine eyes regularly, discontinue if changes seen.
Can mask signs of infection. Coagulation defects; monitor. Diabetes. Elderly. Extracellular volume depletion, sepsis. Monitor blood and GI tract.
Interactions
Salicylates, other NSAIDs, anticoagulants, lithium, corticosteroids, diuretics, antihypertensives, probenecid, aminoglycosides, methotrexate, quinolones, cyclosporin, digoxin, phenylpropanolamine, nephrotoxic drugs, mifepristone.
Adverse Reactions
GI bleeding or persistent headaches (discontinue if occur). Corneal deposits, retinal disturbances (perform periodic eye tests on long-term therapy). GI intolerance, dizziness, CNS effects, blood dyscrasias, dermatological effects, cardiovascular effects, Stevens- Johnson syndrome.
