Drug Class Description
Moderately potent corticosteroids (topical steroids).Generic Name
Flurandrenolone [fludroxycortide]Drug Description
Haelan: cream and ointment.Presentation
Haelan: Flurandrenolone 0.0125%. Haelan Tape: Translucent, polythene adhesive film impregnated with flurandrenolone 4 micrograms per square cm.Indications
Haelan: Steroid responsive dermatoses.
Haelan Tape: Adjunctive therapy for chronic recalcitrant dermatoses.
Adult Dosage
Apply two or three times daily.
Haelan Tape: Apply to clean, dry, shorn skin, usually for 12 hour periods.
Contra Indications
Use on acne (including rosacea), peri-oral dermatitis, scabies, leg ulcers, tuberculous, ringworm or viral skin disease.
Untreated or viral skin disease. Untreated fungal or bacterial infections. Extensive or prolonged use in pregnancy. Continuous prophylactic use.
Special Precautions
Limit use in children or on face to maximum 5 days. In infants, napkins and plastic pants may act as occlusive. Monitor use in psoriasis. Withdraw gradually after prolonged use.
Adverse Reactions
Cushingoid changes and adrenal suppression. Skin atrophy, striae and telangiectasia. Velus hair growth.Manufacturer

Study finds benefits of Xolair for Allergic Asthma treatment Allergy and Clinical Immunology Page
New results from the APEX trial of Xolair (omalizumab), from Novartis, show that the drug considerably reduces patients need for steroid use, while at the same time helping disease control and lowering the amount of Asthma exacerbations. Usual treatment for Allergic Astham is oral steroids, but these are associated with weight gain, hypertension, osteoporosis and depression. The data, presented at the 2011 European Respiratory Society congress, shows that in the 12 months after patients started on Xolair (p<0.001), the mean total dose of oral corticosteroids per individual reduced by 34%, with 49% of individuals stopping the oral steroids altogether and 64% considerably reducing their oral corticosteroid dosage. Compared to the previous year, patients experienced a considerable reduction in the amount of asthma exacerbations after 12 months of treatment (53%, 1.7 versus 3.7, 95% CI, p<0.001). Lung function was also found to improve.
