Adultos: 250 a 500 mg/6 a 8 horas (oral), 750 mg/12 horas (im). Niños: 7.5 mg/kg/6 horas (oral), 12.5 a 25 mg/kg/12 horas (im). Las dosis se expresan en tianfenicol.

Los efectos adversos de este medicamento son generalmente leves y transitorios. Los efectos secundarios que se manifiestan más frecuentemente son: Alteraciones sanguíneas (ocasionalmente: anemia, trombocitopenia, granulocitopenia). Alteraciones neurológicas (ocasionalmente: neuropatía periférica, cefalea). Alteraciones psicológicas/psiquiátricas (ocasionalmente: depresión, confusión, delirio). Alteraciones oculares (ocasionalmente: neuropatía óptica). Alteraciones digestivas (ocasionalmente: náuseas, vómitos, diarrea. Raras: alteraciones del gusto, glositis, estomatitis). Alteraciones alérgicas (excepcionalmente: urticaria, espasmo bronquial). El tratamiento debe ser suspendido inmediatamente, en el caso de que el paciente experimente algún episodio intenso de hemorragia, cansancio, fiebre o alteraciones ópticas.
