Cytacon Tablets, cyanocobalamin 50 microgram . Cytacon Liquid, cyanocobalamin 35 micrograms per 5mL. Cytacon is not prescribable on the NHS. Only available at NHS expense for treatment or prevention of vitamin B deficiency in a patient who is 12 vegan or who has a proven vitamin B deficiency of dietary origin; prescription must be endorsed 12 'SLS'.Indications
Post-gastrectomy vitamin B deficiency, nutritional vitamin 12 B deficiency, tropical sprue. Pernicious anaemia if 12 intramuscular route unacceptable.Adult Dosage
Tablets: 1 - 3 tablets daily. Pernicious anaemia, at least 6 daily.
Liquid: 5 - 10mL two or three times daily. Pernicious anaemia, at least 300 microgram daily.
Child Dosage
Tablets: 1 tablet daily. Liquid: 5mL two or three times daily.Contra Indications
Hypersensitivity to the product.Special Precautions
Pernicious anaemia - must use adequate dose and blood picture must be examined regularly at least every three months for 18 months until stabilised and then annually. Long term treatment with Cytacon liquid may increase risk of dental caries. Administer liquid with care in diabetes mellitus (contains sugar).
Interactions
Para-aminosalicylic acid, methyldopa, colchicine, biguanides, neomycin, colestyramine (cholestyramine), pot. chlor., cimetidine.
