Drug Class Description

Salicylates (antiplatelet agents, antiplatelets).

Generic Name

Aspirin - MI

Drug Description

Pink e-c tablets marked with strength.

Presentation

Tablets, aspirin 75mg .

Indications

To reduce the risk of myocardial infarction.

Adult Dosage

Acute MI, 3 daily for 2 days. Maintenance, 1 daily.

Child Dosage

Not recommended.

Contra Indications

Active peptic ulceration, bleeding disorders, lactation.

Special Precautions

Aspirin/anti-inflammatory induced allergies, history of bronchospasm, asthma, renal or hepatic impairment. Pregnancy (avoid at term).

Interactions

Coumarin anticoagulants and hypoglycaemic agents (especially sulphonylureas), certain anti- inflammatory agents, uricosuric agents, methotrexate, spironolactone and corticosteroids. Antacids with enteric coated preps.

Adverse Reactions

Bronchospasm, GI upset.
