Corticosteroids (steroids).

Drug Description

Inhaler (200-dose).

Presentation

Inhaler, beclometasone dipropionate 50 microgram , 100 microgram , 250 microgram . Available from APS, Generics UK, Hillcross.

Indications

Prophylaxis of bronchial asthma.

Adult Dosage

Usually 200 microgram twice daily.

Severe cases, initially 600 - 800 microgram daily, reducing according to response.

Total daily dose may be given as two, three or four divided doses. two, three or four divided doses.

Child Dosage

50 - 100 micrograms two to four times daily according to the response. Alternatively, 100 -200 micrograms twice daily. Usual starting dose, 100 micrograms twice daily.

Contra Indications

Hypersensitivity to any component.

Special Precautions

Active or quiescent pulmonary tuberculosis. Pregnancy. Transferring from systemic steroids.

Adverse Reactions

Hoarseness, candidiasis of mouth and throat, paradoxical bronchospasm.
