Drug Description

BPL: Solution in vials. Hyland Immuno: Solution in a pre- loaded syringe.

Presentation

Human anti-D immunoglobulin in vials containing 250iu, 500iu, 2500iu per mL. Available from BPL. Human anti-D immunoglobulin in pre-loaded syringe 1250 i.u. per mL. Available from Hyland Immuno.

Indications

Rh (D) incompatibility.

Adult Dosage

0 BPL product: Antenatal prophylaxis: 500 i.u. at weeks 28 and 34. Parturition: 500iu plus 125iu for every 1ml foetal red cells in excess of 4mls by slow intramuscular injection. Sensitising events during first 20 weeks of pregnancy, 250 iu per incident by slow intramuscular injection at time of incident; injection at time of incident; after 20 weeks, 500 iu per incident by slow intramuscular injection at time of incident.

Transfusion: 125iu per ml of transfused Rh (D) incompatible transfused blood by slow 0 intramuscular injection.

Hyland Immuno product: Antenatal prophylaxis, 1250 i.u. by intramuscular injection during weeks 28 and 34. Parturition, miscarriage, abortion or other sensitising event, 1250 i.u. within 72 hours. Transplacental haemorrhage, 5, 000 i.u. or 50 i.u. per ml of foetal blood transferred. Transfusion, 50 - 100 i.u. per ml of Rh (D) incompatible transfused blood by intramuscular 0 injection.

Child Dosage

Not applicable.

Contra Indications

Thrombocytopenia, coagulation disorders preventing intramuscular injection.

Special Precautions

Patients with IgA antibodies or a history of atypical reactions to blood or blood products.
